A Room of My Own: Wooden Jesus and Bent Woman Haiku

  1. The following is my response to some comments on my haiku posted in Inkstone Poetry:

My cinematic haiku is the description of a scene about the sunlight coming through a stained glass window and shining on the wooden Jesus and a woman with a bent back (due to her old age or her illness).

It could be read as an allusion to one of the famous New Testament stories, "Healing the Woman with a Bent Back" (Luke, 13:10-13).

"... On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, [11] and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. [12] When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." [13] Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God..."

In the story , this bent woman encountered a man of flesh and blood, named Jesus who was believed to be the son of God, and she was cured by him.

In real life, it''s just the Wooden Jesus and a bent woman in the stained glass light.

A woman, coming in and out of the church, with a bent back.
