Bio Sketch

Anna Yin is Mississauga’s Inaugural Poet Laureate with six poetry books. She won the 2005 Ted Plantos Memorial Award, two MARTY Awards and the 2013 Professional Achievement Award from CPAC.   1. Anna's emotionally resonant and visually evocative haiku is a good example of how to effectively use a kigo (seasonal word/reference) in the composition of haiku:

    In addition to providing a seasonal reference and enhancing the tone and mood of the poem, "winter" connotes both the aunt's state of health, physical and mental, and the last stage of her life.
